Demos details!
All demos are perfect, however they unfold:
In keeping with our focus on doing personal work, after we check in, we’ll start each class by having someone volunteer to do a short piece of IFS work with me, with everyone else witnessing.
In the Four Techniques class we’ll use the technique of the day to do the demonstration work, but my allegiance is ALWAYS to the person doing the demo and their work, NOT to teaching a technique. Therefore, if for some reason we end up veering off of the technique (like, we’re working with a mind map but we suddenly veer ‘off the map’ and end up just working with one part) that is FINE!
The reality is that not all work is going to ‘fit’ into the structure of a technique. Even in my demo videos, you can see how using the technique worked at some junctures, and then I veered out of that structure at other points before coming back to the technique. Every demo video has sections that clearly illustrate how the technique can be used, so for me, that takes pressure off the class demo to ‘illustrate’ the technique thoroughly — because the video demo before the class always already does that!
Therefore, I invite you to know that there is truly NO RIGHT WAY to do a demo — up to and including demonstrating the ‘technique of the day’! Sure, we’ll start with that structure, but we’re not wedded to it. We’re using the techniques as a backboard, as something to bounce our parts work off of, as a way to get started, as a door — nothing more. My wish is that this takes pressure off the parts who are doing the demo, as well.
Specifically for the Four Techniques class: because there are four classes, and four techniques to demonstrate, four people will be able to do a demonstration during the class, and be witnessed in your inner work, if you choose to. If you have a preference for the technique you want to do for your demonstration, let me know!
